About Me
I was born in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, but moved to Australia as a baby. I was raised in Adelaide, Australia for 9 years until I returned to Canada and moved to Victoria, BC, which is where I call my hometown.
This is my sixth year at Seoul International School (SIS). I am the Elementary School Physical Education Specialist and Team Leader and have also been a Grade 1 Teacher. Prior to coming to SIS, I taught in Japan for four years in both Japanese public schools and at a language institute.
I have a Masters in International Education from Framingham State College. I also have a Bachelor of Education degree from from the University of Ottawa. Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Recreation and Leisure Studies and a minor in Management from the University of Waterloo. Finally, I have a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
In my free time, I play ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, basketball, practice yoga, road bike and weight train. I love music and play the acoustic guitar both at home and in class. I also love traveling and have visited over 15 different countries around the world.
My teaching philosophy is that I, as the teacher, need to provide students with a safe, honest and challenging environment to learn. I believe that students need to take responsibility for their own learning by doing their best at all times. I think that students should be rewarded for their efforts, but accept the consequences of not following expectations. My hope is that my students think independently and communicate openly and honestly in every aspect of their lives.
